Mostly rock inspired, Groundscore's music incorporates funk, jazz, and latin traditions. Emphasizing space with interlocking parts, in-the-pocket drum and bass grooves underlie tasteful and engaging melodic phrasing between guitar and keyboards. The warm 70's rock tones of the band are complimented by lead female vocals that act as a fifth instrument which delivers prose-leaning lyrics.
Based in Portland, Oregon since 2002, Groundscore was originally formed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 2000 where the band recorded two albums, Thinking in Cartoons (2001) and On the Mend (2002). Since being in Portland, the band has performed their 150th show, playing at venues and festivals in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and California. Recently, the band retreated to the studio to record their most concise and tightly arranged album to date, The Going Rate (2006).
Groundscore is currently in the woodshed writing new songs and re-arranging previously unreleased material for their next CD release.
